Raw Weight Loss

I’m going raw. Two pregnancies, and many, many pounds that simply won’t come off no matter the diet. Raw, simply feels right. I’ll be journaling my adventure here.

This past week has been my first real experience blogging…at least writing my own that is. I’ve decided that I prefer wordpress over blogger. Below, I’ve copied my last weeks posts here. Tomorrow is weekly update day…til then.

Leg Trouble

I mentioned before that I have to be careful to not overexert myself during exercise. The only trouble I thought I had in that regard was the onset of heavy menstrual type bleeding. I say type, as it doesn’t seem to follow any normal cycle. It starts and stops all over the map.
So, I’ve been doing a bit of walking on the treadmill. Anywhere from 10 to 25 minutes at a stretch, and walking pretty slowly. In fact, I generally feel a little silly in just how slow I’m walking as I’m certainly capable of pushing it much harder.

On Sunday, after I was out in the garden I noticed a little painful lump on my left leg to the side of my knee (outside). I was at the doctor for something else, so I mentioned it. He didn’t seem to be concerned, and brushed aside my worry of a blod clot. He thought it was a benign fatty deposit.
Well, yesterday after getting off the treadmill I noticed that those lumps are replicating, and they are now running up the outside of my thigh…lots of them. It’s slightly swollen, sore and red. On the same leg, on my calf I also must have broken a blood vessel as I have a huge bruise which came out of nowhere, and a new pain somewhere deep in my calf. I can’t quite determine where exactly the pain is. It’s more generalized.
I’m going back to the doctor today, and my concerns of blood clots have returned.

Yesterdays stats
exercise - 35 minutes on treadmill

food
some sort of smoothie in the morning
a huge romaine, parsley, and spinach salad with cucumbers
2 slices of sprouted bread with raw hazelnut butter
an orange
about 2 mouthfuls of the kids fish
about 2 or three tastes of basmati rice (also the kids)
a couple of flax crackers
a decadent raw brownie - yummy

Weight 235.4

Bloating

Last night I noticed that my stomach has become extremely bloated. I’ve been drinking lots of water, so I don’t think I’m dehydrated. However, my stomach is a little distended, and rock hard. I’m not sure what that’s about.
This supposedly helps:
Fennel Tummy Tea

This will be a short post today, I’ve slept in a bit and I have to get moving and start getting the kids up and ready.

Yesterday I ate
a big mixed green salad with pineapples
mixed fruit during the day
cucumber
most of a barbecued chicken burger with just a bit of mayo (from home,so It wasn’t quite so nasty)
lightly steamed asparagus
couple of flax crackers

My husband cooked dinner last night, and I was way too tired to cook up something different for myself. It could have been worse :-) I do find myself becoming full/satisfied earlier now. a few months ago, I would have ate the whole burger, and possibly had another.

Today I weighed in at 237 - down a bit from yesterday - YAY!

Angela Stokes

Her weight loss is truly inspiring. Angela has lost 160 lbs on a raw food diet. I think she lost this weight in just a little over a year. I downloaded some ebooks (including Angela’s) last night, but I haven’t has a chance to read through them yet.

I definitely need some inspiration. My own weight loss is just excruciatingly slow. 8 lbs in a little over a month, and it’s supposed to be faster in the beginning….what it’s going to crawl to 2 lbs per month later ? ;-)

anyway, my diet was far better yesterday than on Sunday.
I started with a fruit (blueberry/banana) smoothie with green powder, a bit of fruit throughout the day. Dinner was take out at the hospital. A carrot/ginger/apple juice, a big huge fruit salad, and I split a vegetarian panini with my mother. Not raw, but all veggies and wholegrains….very, very yummy.
I had a larabar later last night when I got home.
Lots of water as well.

Weight - down a bit from yesterdays high of 240 to 237.8
I’m still a little higher than I was a week ago.

Magnolia tree

Planted a lovely magnolia tree yesterday. I had to replace the dead weeping higgins cherry. I’ve now somehow managed to kill 2 of them. It’s obviously not meant to be. In the last couple of years, I’ve planted 5 other trees. They are all doing fabulous. It was just the cherry trees….shame.

My diet was just horrendous yesterday. It started out with an awful smoothie made up of lettuce, kale, red pepper, goji berries, and a pinch of cayene pepper…..really not a good combination :-)
it went downhill from there. Forgot to eat most of the day as I was so busy out gardening. So, at supper I porked out on a three cheese penne with garlic bread from boston pizza.

I did however learn a valuable lesson there. Having such a heavy cooked meal makes one feel just awful. I have no desire to eat that way again. My resolve to go raw is stronger than ever.

I weighed in at 240 this morning. I was hoping that drinking tons of water yesterday would relieve some bloating. It looks like I’m holding onto the water…and the penne.

Still stubbornly hovering around the 238/237 mark. I think I’ve been here for about two weeks or so. At least it certainly feels that way. I do believe that I’m quite seriously dehydrated. I’ll be sure to drink plenty of water today and see if it helps any.

I’m looking forward to spending the day outside. I need to pull up a huge whack of weeds, and put down my mulch. This should up my activity level some. I didn’t get a chance to get on the treadmill, as the kids were up quite late. Hubby wasn’t home to watch them. …try again today.

What I ate yesterday
fruit smoothie (blueberry, bananas)
lots of various fruit during the morning
mostly chopped up fresh veggies in the afternoon
big spinach salad
couple bites of scrambled eggs the kids were eating
and one absolutely scrumptious raw brownie from the local hfs.
Weight today 237.6

I should note that I am still drinking coffee - with MILK a couple times per day. I admit to being seriously addicted to coffee, and one of my goals is to eventually cut it out altogether. I am already drinking far less than I used to. I think it will be quite some time before I’m 100% raw. At this point it’s somewhere between 80% and 90%

Beginning the journey

this blog is primarily to keep myself accountable. I have numerous health issues, and have been informed by my doctor that I need to lose 50 lbs before they will operate. At this point I need a hysterectomy. Possibly, with weight loss and a primarily raw diet, I’m hoping to avoid the operation all together. I’m young - only 34. I’m desperately hoping that I will not need it.

Here I’ll journal my daily intake, my weight, and any positive (or negative) changes.

I’ve been eating primarily raw for a couple of weeks. Weight loss has been excruciatingly slow. I’ve only lost about 8 lbs in 1 month. Due to my health problems, I’ve been unable to exercise. I’m starting to feel a little better, so I will attempt a little walking on the treadmill tonight. I’ll have to take it slow, as any strenuous exercise causes extremely heavy bleeding.

On a positive note, since changing my diet, I have heaps more energy than I’ve had in ages, and my skin colour has drastically improved. I’ve always been quite pale, and everyone is now commenting on how rosy my cheeks are now. It’s lovely :-)

Yesterday (May 05)
Breakfast - Green and fruit smoothie - kale, lettuce, apples, and avocado
mango,
oranges
spinach, walnut and fruit salad
couple of figs
bananas
apple
and a slice of pizza (not raw!) -oh well

Here’s my starting measurements…they haven’t changed much with the 8 lbs, but with exercise….hopefully we’ll see some changes.

Upper Arms: 16.5
Bust: 45.5
Back 40
waist 41.5
hips 57
thighs 30
calves 18
Weight 238
